Walnut, Puente Hills and San Gabriel Valley Federation of Republican Women Proudly Bring Assemblyman Chuck Devore (R-70AD) Candidate for United States Senate and Candidate Teresa Hernandez United States Congress, 32nd District to the San Gabriel Valley.
Walnut, California April 6, 2009: The Walnut, Puente Hills and San Gabriel Valley Federation of Republican Women proudly bring a man of character and strong conservative values to special joint Federated meeting.
Assemblyman Chuck DeVore currently represents the 70th District of the State of California with over 500,000 constituents. Chuck DeVore is a common sense conservative candidate for United States Senate in 2010 against Barbara Boxer.
Chuck lives in Irvine and represents an area that includes almost 500,000 people in Orange County. His legislative committee assignments are: Vice Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation, the Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. Chuck was elected in 2004 and reelected in 2006 and in 2008.
Chuck has been honored as the Legislator of the Year by seven groups: the California Veterans of Foreign Wars, the California chapter of the American Legion, the California State Commanders Veterans Council, an umbrella organization of 19 veterans groups, the Southern California Contractors Association, the Young Republican Federation of California, the California College Republicans, and the Republican Party of Orange County. United Way of Orange County recognized Chuck in 2006 for his legislation improving childcare.
Chuck worked in the aerospace industry for 13 years and was vice president of research before leaving work to begin serving as an elected official.
Chuck served as a Reagan White House appointee in the Pentagon from 1986 to 1988. As Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs his duties included working with Congress to advance the President’s foreign and military policy. Chuck’s official travels took him to Asia, Europe, Africa, and Central America. His initiative helped develop the Arrow Anti-Ballistic Missile program.
In 1988 Chuck served as Director of Public Liaison for former Congressman Chris Cox’s first campaign for public office. Through 1990, he served as the Congressman’s Senior Assistant.
From 1991 to 1996, Chuck served as a City Commissioner for the City of Irvine. He was Chairman of the city’s Community Services Commission.
In 1983, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He earned an ROTC scholarship that allowed him to attend Claremont McKenna College where he graduated with honors with a degree in Strategic Studies in 1985 and was commissioned an officer. He also studied overseas at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. After more than 24 years of service, Chuck retired from the Army National Guard with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
A graduate of the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College, his awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster, and others.
Since age 19, Chuck has been an active volunteer for the Republican Party, serving in the leadership of several organizations. He was elected to the Orange County Republican Party Central Committee in 1992 and was reelected four times. Chuck was Chairman of the Ethics Committee.
Chuck is also the author of the internationally acclaimed novel, China Attacks. Written in 1999 and translated into Chinese in 2000, the book, banned in China, sells well in Taiwan where Chuck met with Taiwanese government and military leaders in 2001 and again in 2005.
Chuck’s opinion pieces have appeared in the Investors’ Business Daily, Human Events, the Orange County Register, the Los Angeles Daily News, the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Taipei Times, the Jamestown Review, the U.S. Army’s Red Thrust Star, and many others. In 2008, he authored a scholarly piece entitled, “Relative Risk: Global Warming and Imported Fossil Fuels vs. Nuclear Power,” for the UC Berkeley School of Law’s inaugural edition of Ecology Law Currents.
In 2004, The Claremont Institute named Chuck a Lincoln Fellow.
Chuck and his wife Diane were married in 1988. They have two daughters. Diane is a credentialed teacher and a member of the Federation of Republican Women.
Also joining our meeting is Teresa Hernandez, Candidate 32nd Congressional District. Born in Covina, California, Teresa Hernandez grew up in West Covina and attended local schools. As a teenager Teresa became involved in her community and worked on her first political campaign as a senior in high school.
Teresa and her husband of 30 years, Jose, have four children ages 22, 17, and 8 year old twins. It was shortly after her marriage that Teresa enrolled in college while working several jobs to earn her R.N. Degree. She applied her education and skills at Whittier Hospital, while Jose attended film scoring school and played mariachi music at night to help make ends meet for their growing family.
Teresa and Jose opened Cielito Lindo Restaurant in South El Monte in 1986. It has become a local landmark and popular family restaurant. A few years later they formed Hernandez Productions to launch Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles to produce Mariachi Festivals and shows across the United States. In 1991, Teresa and her husband started the Mariachi Heritage Society to provide in‐school and after school music classes for local children who could not otherwise afford instruments or lessons. Over 7,000 children have attended this program from schools in Azusa, South El Monte, Norwalk and Pico Rivera.
Teresa Hernandez has been living the American dream. After all the hard work, putting herself through school, creating a successful business with 50 employees and managing a family, Teresa still gives back to the community. She believes that in this great country, if you work hard, you could reap the fruits of your labor and then you are able to give back by helping others.
Teresa Hernandez is running for Congress to bring some fresh thinking to the problems facing our country. These are incredibly challenging and difficult days that we as a nation are facing. It is especially important that those who represent us in the United States Congress are committed to a sense of balance and a voice of reason. Government has a vital role to play as we work to get our country back on the right track.
Congress must be fiscally responsible. Congress does not need another career politician. It’s time to send a successful businesswoman, with a proven track record, to talk some sense into our Federal Government. The residents of the 32nd District deserve nothing less!
As Teresa puts it, “I must try to effect change, as Ronald Reagan once said “If not us, who? If not now, when? That time is now!
Please join us for this unique opportunity to hear from these highly respected individuals.

The objectives of the Federation of Republican Women are:
• Promote an informed public through education and activity
• Increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government
• Influence legislation and maintain a presence in State government in accordance with California Federated of Republican Women goals
• Promote a wider knowledge of the principles and policies of the Republican Party
• Encourage active citizenship
• Cooperate with the California Republican Party and the County Central Committees for the election of Republican Nominees
• Facilitate cooperation among Federated Republican Women’s Unit Clubs
• Foster loyalty to Republican candidates in all elections including nonpartisan elections
Teresa Hernandez announced her candidacy to replace Labor Secretary Hilda Solis in California’s 32nd Congressional District at a high energy kickoff Thursday evening. The May 19, 2009 special election will give the Republican candidate an opportunity to help turn the liberal tide in Washington, DC.
Teresa and her husband of 30 years, Joe, have a successful business, raised their children, and have a foundation that teaches music to school children. The Covina native is willing to trade her successful private life to run for office because she is concerned that Congress is out of touch with what is happening at the street level. Visit Hernandez’ website here.
State Senator Gill Cedillo is the liberal Democrat vying for the seat. Cedillo is best known as the author of the bill he introduces every year to grant drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. Cedillo has always been more interested in granting government benefits to illegal immigrants than protecting American citizens from the drugs, crime, and tax burden from those who feel that our national border is just a suggestion, and that U.S. immigration laws should be ignored.
For any voter concerned about the lawlessness at the U.S. southern border, there is a viable candidate who wants to enforce the border and stop the illegal incursions into the country by both people and drugs.
Hernandez knows that street crime is the biggest issue in her district. Much of that street crime is a direct result of illegal immigration. Residents have a right to feel safe in their neighborhoods.
She believes Americans have a right to know who is in our country and why they are here. With enforced border security, traditional Latino neighborhoods will be safer, livable dommunities. Neighborhood schools will be stronger stepping stones to success. It takes a candidate who has a strong relationship with the Latino community to deliver this important message in CA-32. Teresa Hernandez has the leadership in the Latino community to be considered a credible candidate representing her constituents.
The Hernandez’ restraunt in South El Monte, Cielito Lindo, and music production businesses employ eighty. She would represent business owners who are being overly burdened by federal mandates. I appreciate a candidate who knows how hard it is to make payroll, pay taxes, and provide benefits in an ever shrinking market.
She knows that a Congress that keeps raising taxes and spending beyond the level taxpayer can support hurts local, state, and national economies.
The open primary special election provides a unique opportunity to move a traditionally democrat congressional seat to a strong republican representative. All republicans can support a local candidate via her website at teresahernandez.com
It is nine weeks to the special election. It will take time, talent, and treasure to win. I have already signed up to help and support Teresa Hernandez’ efforts to defeat one of the most liberal illegal immigrants’ rights advocates in the state. She knows what I know, illegal immigration hurts Americans of Latino decent first, and hurts every taxpaying household in the country.
It is time to support a financially conservative candidate who will bring the common sense of a business owner, parent, and community activist to the U.S. Congress.
Several Spanish media outlets recently ran stories about Teresa. Read the articles here:
